Celebrating Libraries

March 31, 2009

National Library Week will be observed April 12-18 this year with the theme, Worlds connect @ your library. Please be sure to keep an eye and ear out for upcoming festivities as we recognize the importance of libraries to us all. Library Workers Day will be Tuesday April 14, so don’t forget to tell your favorite library staff person how much you appreciate them.  I certainly appreciate all my library colleagues and want to thank our Director, Dr. Clara A. Ogbaa, for her inspirational leadership, vision, and passion for Gateway library and its community.

New Research Tool on the Library’s Website

February 10, 2009

If you look at our updated webpage you’ll now see a button for Subject Guides, another new feature to help with your research needs.  Clicking on it will take you to a page where you can select the subject you’re interested in and find helpful resources in that area including books, databases, and websites.  We think you’ll find the guides extremely helpful so give them a try soon.

Revised Library Website

February 10, 2009

The library’s webpage has a new look and we hope you’ll find it easier to navigate. There’s now a quick search box and buttons for quicker access to some of our resources. The left column has been updated with a listing of some of our tools and services. You’ll also see a new service we’ve just added – instant messaging reference using Meebo. Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress and we welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.

E-books

December 16, 2008

Not sure what an ebook is or have never used one before? An ebook is an electronic version of a book and very easy to access. The library subscribes to ebrary which is a database containing over 18,000 ebooks. This database is accessible to all Gateway faculty, students, and staff on or off campus under the Reference and Ebook heading. Why not try it and see what a great resource it is and how easy it is to use. If you need help getting to this database look at the blog’s FAQs or you can stop by or call the library for assistance at 203-285-2057.
